Post seven: Comparing and Contrasting
The past month I have learned there is a huge difference in collage writing and high school writing. Not only is the formatting completely different but whats expected out of the writing completely different. This has been challenging to break bad habits in a high school essay that aren't tolerated in collage essay. "In college, you should start using first-person
pronouns in your formal academic writing, where appropriate"(Maddalena 180). This particular statement sums up a lot of what I want to get across. Collage essays use first person where in high school essays I have always been taught to use third person, or to never use I. So it feels weird to write an essay and use my personal experiences and to say I. The pressure of whats expected in academic writing is one of the biggest things, as I mentioned before. But in comparison both high school and collage writings are meant to teach us something and helps us master certain forms of writings.
I agree with you, college writing is way different from high school writing. High school never prepare us about writing in college. For a while it was hard for me to break out of the high school habits of writing as well.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean when it's hard going from highschool to college writing. It's been a big adjustment.
