Post eight: What I have learned

In this term, I have learned many things, not only about writing, but other small things as well. Although it may not show as much as I like, I have become a better writer and now understand MLA formatting way more than before this class. Researching has also become a new skill of mine in this period of time. Now I go more in depth with the information, and I now know how to find credible sites and articles to use. This has improved my essays tremendously. There are now more details for the facts, and help me express more knowledge in what I'm writing. I have also learned about using "I" in essays, which was very new to me. It brought me discomfort at first, but after my first essay I got the got the hang of it. Post seven: Comparing and Contrasting

The past month I have learned there is a huge difference in collage writing and high school writing. Not only is the formatting completely different but whats expected out of the writing completely different. This has been challenging to break bad habits in a high school essay that aren't tolerated in collage essay. "In college, you should start using first-person pronouns in your formal academic writing, where appropriate"(Maddalena 180). This particular statement sums up a lot of what I want to get across. Collage essays use first person where in high school essays I have always been taught to use third person, or to never use I. So it feels weird to write an essay and use my personal experiences and to say I. The pressure of whats expected in academic writing is one of the biggest things, as I mentioned before. But in comparison both high school and collage writings are meant to teach us something and helps us master certain forms of writings.
